Strengthening Global Connections: WACCC Business Mission to Malaysia


5th – 11th September 2024

The Western Australia Chinese Chamber of Commerce (WACCC) proudly reflects on the extraordinary success of its Business Mission to Malaysia, which spanned three vibrant locations: Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, and the 17th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC). This mission, held from 5th to 11th September 2024, created invaluable opportunities for Western Australian businesses to connect with global stakeholders, forge partnerships, and deepen their understanding of the Southeast Asian market.

 

5th – 7th September | Kuching

The delegation began in Kuching, with a warm reception from the Kuching Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCGCCI) and Sarawak leaders. Key activities included:

•A Property Site Visit led by Dominic Su, followed by a tour of the Sarawak Cultural Village and a cultural show.

•Engagements with the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and SHEDA (Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association), including the opening ceremony of the SHEDA Property Expo.

•Networking dinners at esteemed venues such as The Heritage and Lagenda Hill’s Seafood Restaurant, fostering connections with local industry leaders.

Delegates also explored the city through a Kuching Highlights Tour, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Cat Monument and Chinatown.

 

 

7th – 9th September | Kuala Lumpur

 

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, delegates were welcomed at the RuMa Hotel and Residences. Key highlights included:

•A reception dinner with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (KLSCCCI) at One Seafood Restaurant.

•A meeting with ITWA (WA Government) at Signature Q Sentral to explore trade opportunities.

•Engagements with Austrade and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (JTSI), facilitating impactful discussions on trade and investment between Western Australia and Malaysia.

Delegates also enjoyed leisure activities, including sightseeing tours and business-matching opportunities.

 

 

9th – 11th September | 17th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC)

 

The mission culminated in the prestigious 17th WCEC in Kuala Lumpur, a biennial event designed to establish a global economic network for Chinese entrepreneurs. Delegates participated in:

Plenary sessions on topics such as leveraging Malaysia’s ecosystem for global success.

Thematic forums addressing cutting-edge issues, including Green and AI Economy, Semiconductor Innovation, and ASEAN Market Potential.

Special presentations and forums exploring tech innovation, education, and inspiring success stories.

•Networking events such as the Welcoming Dinner and the celebrated ‘Jom Makan’ Closing Ceremony, where delegates forged lasting connections with global entrepreneurs and stakeholders.

Strengthening WA-Malaysia Relations

This mission reinforced Malaysia’s importance as a gateway to Southeast Asia, highlighting critical opportunities for Western Australian businesses in agribusiness, technology, and education.

Looking Ahead: WCEC 2025 in Macau

The 17th WCEC demonstrated the strength of global partnerships and the value of cross-border collaboration. We now look forward to the 18th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention, which will be held in Macau in 2025. WACCC remains committed to creating opportunities for Western Australian businesses to connect with global markets, and we are excited for what lies ahead.

 

Chinese New Year Ball – 2025

Sliding in to the Year of the Snake with A Ritzy Celebration. With great anticipation in the lead up to the WACCC 2025 Chinese New Year Ball, 320 guests shone in their finest new year attire, enjoying an evening of Ritz-Carlton ambience and WACCC hospitality at the Elizabeth Quay ballroom on Saturday 8th February. The sold-out event attracted members, guests, VIPs, long-time friends, sponsors and visitors, local, national and international.
